His great-uncle Jasper Becker — Marine, self-made, dead eleven weeks — spent his last good year building not a will but a fortress of integrity: advisors who could never profit from his heir's choices, a team devoted to J's success and gainless in it. Jasper had been the broke nobody once. He knew exactly what money does to the people standing near you. So he engineered a world that wouldn't lie to the man who inherited his.

The fortress of honesty has one rule above all: the firm may disclose only what is written in the instructions. And "she is his sister" was never written — because a dying man who planned everything never planned for these two to find each other and fall in love.
So the most agonizing scene is the honest people trying to stop a wedding they cannot explain. The protection becomes the trap. The one who finally breaks the silence does it out of love for the man who built the wall — keeping faith with him by betraying his every instruction.
Discovered with horror, never designed with approval. And in the wreckage, J does the one thing the structure never could: he stops hiding the family.
